Counseling Services for Older Adults
The Outpatient Counseling Services for Older Adults Program is designed to meet the individual needs of older adults (55 and over) seeking services. Older adults face complex life changes such as coping with chronic health problems, grief and loss, family conflicts, adjustment to living situations, and transitional living that can cause depression and anxiety. At times, medical problems can increase the risk of breakdown in emotional health.
Located on the Tyrone Hospital Campus:
221 Hospital Drive, Suite 1
Tyrone PA 16686
Services provided include:
The program offers intensive outpatient treatment and periodic therapy based on the individual client’s needs. Intensive treatment is designed to prevent psychiatric hospitalization or as a follow-up to an inpatient stay. Periodic treatment helps to maintain clients once they are stabilized.
Group therapy is our mode of treatment for older adults. Individual and Family sessions are provided to our group participants when deemed necessary by the Treatment Team. Interaction with others in addition to medication management assists clients in getting better faster. Sharing thoughts and feelings and getting support from others helps clients to realize that they are not alone. There are others who are experiencing some of the same feelings of sadness, worry and grief.
Family therapy and education helps to bridge the gaps that occur between loved ones and friends of the client. Family conflicts can occur when decisions need to be made about living situations, medical issues and finances. Our goal for each client is to improve their quality of life by helping them to identify and process the issues that are causing them distress.
Transportation to the program may be available based on an assessment of individual needs and circumstances. This is to be used only after all other options are evaluated.
