Breast Cancer Surgeon Joins Tyrone Hospital Medical Staff
Tyrone Hospital is pleased to welcome David Arbutina, MD, FACS, Board Certified general surgeon and retired Colonel of the United States Air Force to the Tyrone Hospital medical staff.
Dr. Arbutina’s focused area of expertise is breast cancer surgery. His scope of practice also includes surgery for melanoma and general surgery.
A native of Pennsylvania, Dr. Arbutina is a seasoned surgeon with more than thirty years of experience. He will serve the residents of Central Pennsylvania through a private practice he has opened on the Tyrone Hospital campus.
Dr. Arbutina’s previous professional affiliations include Geisinger Health System and Mount Nittany Medical Center. During his military career he served at United States Air Force bases in Japan and California. While at Travis Air Force Base he provided surgical services, was General Surgery Consultant to the Air Force Surgeon General and Director of the General Surgery Residency Program. In Japan, at Misawa Air Base, he served as Chief of Surgery and Chief of Hospital Services.
Dr. Arbutina is a Distinguished Graduate of the United States Air Force Academy and a graduate of Hahnemann Medical College. His medical training includes an internship at the United States Air Force Regional Hospital in Elgin and a residency in general surgery at Hahnemann University Hospital. His professional military education was completed at Air War College.
During his training, Dr. Arbutina was recognized with numerous awards for outstanding academic and clinical performance. He is also recipient of several military awards recognizing his accomplishments and performance as a medical educator, surgeon and for his military service including The Legion of Merit Award.
Dr. Arbutina has served as primary investigator for several surgical research studies. He has also reviewed articles on breast cancer diagnosis and general surgery topics for professional publications including Current Surgery, Journal of Surgical Oncology, and Archives of Surgery. Dr. Arbutina has also presented at a number of national and regional conferences for physicians on breast cancer diagnostic procedures and surgical interventions as well as general surgery topics.
Dr. Arbutina’s professional memberships include the American College of Surgeons where he has been a Fellow since 1990 and now serves as a Governor, he is the current President of the Keystone Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, he is a life-time member and Past President of the Society of Air Force Clinical Surgeons, he is a member of the Zeta Chapter of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and he is a past member of the Association of Program Directors in Surgery.
