We Can Help You Regain Control of Your Life
People who battle pain on a daily basis know that it can become a controlling factor in their lives. Pain can interfere
with work, rest, sleep, recreation and daily tasks. Even when pain is a symptom of a serious underlying condition,
managing severe pain can overshadow all other concerns. Pain management is about regaining control of your life
so you can be as functional as possible, given your overall state of health and well-being. The Keystone Headache
and Pain Management Center at Tyrone Hospital provides a wide variety of treatments to address the needs of those
who suffer from pain.

Assessing and Treating Your Pain
At Tyrone Hospital, we understand that pain is different for each person. Listening carefully to how you describe
your pain is an important part of our ability to treat it successfully. We will ask you many questions about where you
feel pain, when it starts, how severe it is and what helps to relieve it. In other words, you are our most important partner
in the pain management process.

We Perform an Assessment
We will perform a physical examination and review your medical records. We may also perform diagnostic studies
which may range from asking you detailed questions to using X-ray imaging, monitors and tests with local anesthetics.
While we want to treat your pain, we also want to determine the source of your pain.

We Prescribe the Most Appropriate Treatment
Because Pain is different for every person, your treatment will be specifically designed to meet your needs and
condition. We strive to use a multi-disciplinary approach to your care. We may even prescribe a combination of
treatments or procedures.

Types of Pain
Acute Pain
Pain may occur during recovery from surgery or may be caused by trauma or injury. While such pain may be severe,
it can be expected to go away through treatment or because of your body's own natural abilities.

Chronic Pain

Pain may persist for weeks, months, even years. It may have been caused by an initial injury, accident or illness from
which you've recovered or there may be an ongoing cause of pain, such as arthritis or infection. Some people suffer
chronic pain in the absence of any past injury or damage to the body. Whatever the cause, we recognize that chronic
pain is real and can be relentless and miserable.

Cancer-Related Pain

Pain can result from the tumor growth or the spread of cancer cells into other organs. Pain may also result from
radiation treatment or chemotherapy.

Headache
People who suffer from headaches know that it can become a controlling factor in their lives. Headaches can
interfere with work, rest, sleep, recreation and daily tasks. Coping with headaches can overshadow all other concerns.
Headache treatment is about regaining control of your life so you can be as functional as possible, given your overall

Migraine Headache
A throbbing head pain often accompanied by nausea and sound and light sensitivity. Can last for hours or days.
Migraine sufferers may exhibit certain symptoms before and after actual headache.

Cluster Headache
Similar to migraine. Headaches occur in groups or clusters. Headache periods can last several weeks or months
and then disappear for months or years. Pain is generally on one side and usually localized behind the eye in the
